Making it easy to encrypt, transfer, and share files to and from Cloud repositories

DePalma Studios partnered with Sertainty, a software development company, to create a proof-of-concept design for their new cloud-based file encryption and transfer product. Not only would this product demonstrate value for potential investors, but it would also require an intelligent security system to protect data and secure files being uploaded, transferred, and downloaded from their CloudGateway.

The Partner

Sertainty Corporation is a Nashville-based technology offering software architects, developers, and IT administrators an easy way to embed intelligence into data files while empowering data with the ability to protect itself. Their goal of protecting confidential, proprietary, and personal data birthed a need for a new cloud-based family encryption and transfer product.

The Problem

When Sertainty partnered with DePalma Studios, they needed a platform that displayed 4 essential functions:

  1. Demonstrating the product’s value to potential investors

  2. Reducing the intimidation factor and cognitive load of their current UX/UI.

  3. Appealing to a wide range of users with varying levels of technical sophistication

  4. Displaying an elegant and intuitive interface and workflow

The Solution

The DePalma team conducted workshops to identify the core users of CloudGateway and their needs from the platform. We then created service design journeys that allowed us to identify and prioritize the features for each unique user base. File encryption, cloud storage, and secure sharing can create complex and confusing workflows. We worked with the client and potential users to design a system of UX/UI that minimized confusion, was intuitive, and was easy to use. This was packaged into an interactive prototype and presentation deck that could be socialized internally and with potential investors.

DePalma conducted a Design Impact Workshop to identify the core users of CloudGateway and their requirements for the platform.

As a part of the process, we put together a design (look & feel) mood board to get some inspiration and grab exciting ideas for the procedure. DePalma's Product team created a modern, user-friendly design to accommodate farming solutions and inspire a community.

The next step was Visual designing with simplified solutions and building the workflow to be intuitive.

We built a working prototype before the development phase on the Invision application to give our clients the feel of the actual application after launch.

The Product

DePalma Studios gathered feedback from Sertainty, and potential future users, to design a system of UX/UI that minimized confusion. The design team took this research to package an interactive prototype and presentation that gave users and potential investors the feel of the future application after launch.

The DIW helped Sertainty to realize the General Pain points such as Unintuitive and intimidating UI and opening up to UX pain points.

The overall product took the complex problem of encrypting, uploading, and sharing secure files on a cloud-based platform and provided an intuitive, easy-to-use workflow as a CloudGateway web app.
